Global LEI System Business Report for Q1 2017
At the end of each quarter, the Global Legal Entity Identifier Foundation (GLEIF) publishes a business report on the latest data of the Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) and important key figures and news. The new report for the first quarter of 2017 provides information on the latest growth rates and key outlook for the current year. Here is a short summary:
At the end of the first quarter of 2017, more than 481,000 active LEIs were issued from 30 LEI issuers. The United States still owns most of the identification numbers with 25% of all LEIs worldwide.
The overall LEI growth rate per quarter remains at 4%, while the annual growth in Europe is 13% and 19% in the rest of the world.
As a result of the new MiFIR / MiFID II regime, the LEI will become compulsory for notifiable transactions from January 2018, which is expected to increase the annual growth rate to 23%. The GLEIF expects 551,000 active LEIs by the end of the year.
The ever growing worldwide importance of the LEI's is further illustrated by this report. The growing number of distributors also points to an ever-increasing acceptance of LEIs as an identification measure in the global financial markets. You can request your individual identification number through the EQS Group's LEI Manager. Here you can find important information about the application.
